I have a question for you. We have the Britax Boulevard and I’m not sure on some things. For one the long strap on the back of it that were supposed to hook to a rod on the front seat and tighten. How tight should that be? And seems to pull the seat to one side and I can’t seem to get the two bottom straps to tighten as much as I could the infant Chicco seat we had in either of our cars (2006 Tahoe and 2011 Explorer) but if I tighten the long strap I can get everything pretty solid. And then the straps for her those should come below her shoulders right? I think I’m doing it right but then I know a lot of people think that and have it wrong! Thanks for the help!
I’m assuming she is still rear facing? Correct? Let me know then I can explain.
Yes of course. She tiny still. Could probably still fit in the infant seat. It’s that long strap that gets me and those other two buckles for the car are just not that good and I can’t seem to pull them enough to tighten it well so I rely on the other one to make everything tight but it pulls the seat down so I don’t know if that the right thing to do or not.
The trick is… Push your front seats up all the way so you have plenty of room. fit the seat in the position and angle you want and loosely hook the latch anchors (bottom two belts). Climb into the car behind the seat. Push in and down with your belly on the seat. Try to wedge the edge of the seat into the foam of the seat back. While doing this, pull straight up on both latch anchors to tighten. Your basically going to look like you are giving your car seat the Heimlich maneuver! I would gladly demo on Skype for you.
Then the top tether, you don’t need it. It is mandatory in Europe because they have a floor hook that out attaches to in all their cars. We do not, so to get it out of the way, they suggest hooking it to the seat in front. Use it if you think it helps, but it is not necessary. I rolled mine up and put it in its pouch.
Interesting. I was wondering about that. A lot of cars don’t have many options for it. Like some rental cars I tried it in when we were on vacation. Awesome thanks! Ill do all that. It does seem like a good seat and she should be in it for a long time. Rear facing long as possible. Yea we could do Skype, I’ll try it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Are there any places we can drop off old car seats? We have 2 that are pushing 10 years old that just take up space. I wasn’t sure if there was a place that recycles them or not.
Great question and I get it all the time. But the components cannot be recycled due to heat cycling and no where local grinds them up that I have been able to find. Its a good idea though and I will continue to keep my eye out!

Hello! Sorry to bother you, I know your the expert on car seat safety!;) I am outfitting my SUV with mirrors and was wondering if you have any advice on window shades? They look like a pain in the butt. I also read some people are against them. Do I need them? I drive a 2013 ford explorer so back windows are tinted. Any advice?!
Actually we recommend against mirrors. They cannot be used in moving vehicles (and some companies even write that in fine print on the box!). This is because they are held in by tiny plastic clips or velcro strips. In a crash, everything will fly forward (imagine what happens now when you slam on the brakes, your purse flies off the seat and lands on the floor right?) Well that big hard mirror will also fly forward, come off and slam into your peanut’s face! Mirrors have caused so many injuries. Trust me you don’t need one. 99% of the time he will we sleeping and for your safety, peanut’s safety and the rest of us for that matter, I want your eyes on the road not your beautiful sleeping babe! Now 1% he will be awake and may be screaming…. your momma bear will kick in and you pull that car over ASAP and check him out. Just looking at him in the mirror will not be good enough for you!
Window shades…. if your windows are tinted you don’t need them. If your windows are not tinted you can purchase the static cling version not the roll down shade version. Remember Color-Forms when we were little? They are thin plastic and they stick to glass? That kind! And you get 2 for $5! The roll down ones are awful because #1 no one ever rolls them up and down #2 the suction cups deteriorate and then they come flying off and, you guessed it, hit and injure your baby! Oh…. all the items I wish they would just outlaw….
One thing, if you do get the static cling shades, they cannot be used over window defoggers when they are in use. They will melt!
Seriously, call me anytime to talk car seats! People do everyday. I can even meet you for your free check! I hope all is well with the new addition. Congrats!
Thank you so much!! That sums it up for me!! I have some of the cling ones already! Time to return all this excessive junk! I’m so glad I messages you! Have a happy Halloween!;)
